Reclaim Birth, Reclaim Health, Reclaim Childhood, Reclaim Family and Reclaim Education

Okay, so you might be wondering where I am going here and how I am connecting birth, health childhood, family and homeschooling together...? Hear me out, because I'm not losing the plot (okay, well maybe just a little)!

I get told a lot that I am 'brave' for homeschooling and that people feel that they 'couldn't do it!' But there is really no bravery involved, in fact my biggest regret is that we didn't do it sooner!

Public schooling in Australia and England was introduced after 1870, and until that time families 'educated' their children just as many of us homeschoolers (unschoolers) are doing now! They did life together, read books, played and children learned and developed organically along the way.

Over the years it feels like we have been slowly conditioned without actually even realising it to outsource our children's education and development to others. There is unquestionably a place for deeper learning from experts in their field, but how do our children develop these passions for deeper learning if we are keeping them at desks all day.

This is by no means a criticism of teachers, I've encountered some truly amazing teachers over the years that are passionate about children and teaching (and a couple of doozys that aren't, let's be honest). But I have also spoken with many teachers and ex-teachers that do or would homeschool their own children. The system is the issue!!

I feel as though this conditioning of mothers happens long before our children are even born, because pregnancy and birth have largely become medicalised events that require extensive interventions, and what once was autonomous women's business is now treated as a health concern. Health no longer consists of sun, good food, hydration and natures medicine, childhood is now spent behind screens, under blue lights and behind desks. The cost of living means that most families go their separate ways every morning and spend 8+ hours apart just to survive.

We're being conditioned to outsource our lives and losing the confidence and trust that we know our families and our children better than anyone.

We need to reclaim it all...birth, health, childhood, family and education.
